—Now, long long ago…
“Iroha!”
A scream-like voice struck my eardrums. When I turned around, a group of armored warriors came pouring out of a narrow path that split the cliff, raising a battle cry.
A hundred? Two hundred?
Either way, it was an overwhelming number.
—Or maybe not.
I hurled my blade at full power. The spinning edge roared through the air, slicing through the armored warriors in one sweep and turning them into particles of light.
—In the super distant future
“Ohhh, crap, crap!”
Without a moment’s rest, another voice flooded in through my earphones.
Okay. Of course, I noticed. You thought you were hidden by the bamboo grove, but I wasn’t about to miss the jump effect peeking through the gaps.
Above.
I tilted the controller so hard my wrist nearly twisted.
—No, no, it’s neither the distant past nor the far future.
—It’s a world just a little bit ahead of now, not all that different from the present.
Threads of light burst from my arm and captured the enemy, turning them into fireworks midair.
I won. I’ll leave the checkmate to my teammates. I loosened my cross-legged posture on the chair and wiped the sweat from my chin.
When I opened my eyes, the room was pitch dark—it must have grown dark without me noticing.
—Just an ordinary high school girl, playing games.
Reflected in the window glass, my eyes glowed an eerie orange, making me look almost like an alien.
